Project Overview:
Bechtel is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. Bechtel's scope of service in Sentinel's current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program.
A major contractor for the United States and allied governments, Bechtel has handled such efforts as chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile-defense, infrastructure, base operations, procurement and project management, and restoration and recovery spanning half a century. We use our expertise to help our customers securely and effectively transform mission delivery.
Job Summary:
This position is for a Civil Engineer who will prepare designs for earthwork, underground commodities, roads, foundations, profiles associated with DOD and USAF projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. This role will specifically support the USAF Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase.
Major Responsibilities:
This role will support design development civil engineering designs for the GBSD program project by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, data sheets, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Work with other civil engineers and technical disciplines in a team environment. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in executing design development and producing design documents for government customers in accordance with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide, including drawings, UFGS specifications, and calculations.
* Development of grading and backfill design and drawings.
* Road design and design documents.
* Foundation design and drawings.
* Assist with boring oversight, and site inspection and review of existing facilities.
* Perform formal calculations and drawings.
* Review vendor information from subcontractors and integrate it into the design solution.
* Execute to schedule requirement while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
* Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.
Education and Experience Requirements:
* Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and
Skills:
Minimum Qualifications:
* Experience with Microsoft office programs, VISIO, and other common computer programs.
* Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
* Ability to utilize office automation tools effectively.
* Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards, as well as Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.
* Relevant experience includes related specifications.
* Broad knowledge of the application of Civil engineering design principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
* MS degree in Civil or related Engineering, from an accredited university.
* Registered Professional Engineer in USA (Civil Engineering).
* Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000.
* Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense.
* Experience with use or knowledge of Revit and/or InRoads.
* Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI Master format specifications, or Specs Intact.
* Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.
* Experience in complex excavation approaches and construction execution, field experience is preferred.
