Job Summary

The Sr. Mechanical Fire Protection Engineer will prepare design and procurement documents relating to Fire Protection and provide technical leadership in the design and development of fire protection systems and equipment for the Sentinel project. This role develops calculations, construction drawings, Fire Protection Design Analysis Reports (FPDAR), tailored Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS), requisition specifications, reviews and approves subcontractor submittals, and assists with determining needed changes and final testing.

The position supports the implementation of programs and procedures that promote fire safety and requires strong organizational, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills.

Job Description
  • Execute assignments in Fire Protection Engineering for the Sentinel (GBSD) project.
  • Interpret, organize, and coordinate Fire Protection issues with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop deliverables including calculations, construction drawings, tailored Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS), and requisition specifications.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the Fire Protection Design Analysis Report (FPDAR) utilizing recognized fire protection industry approaches, methodologies, calculations, and analyses.
  • Support project needs for design, design review, installation, commissioning, code interpretations, and facility walkdowns to meet project deadlines.
  • Independently apply fire safety principles in the development and maintenance of the FPDAR program.
  • Support Construction and Startup activities as needed.
  • Interface with internal and external customers regarding the design, installation, and testing of passive and active fire protection systems and components.
  • Support Department of Defense (DoD) and other external regulatory agency reviews of fire protection design and installation activities.
  • Interface with the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), including authoring equivalencies and exemptions.
  • Perform Fire Protection reviews to determine compliance with applicable Unified Facilities Criteria (UFCs), DoD orders, NFPA standards, and FM standards.
  • Support fire protection subcontracts, including document reviews and serving as the technical point of contact.
Skills Required
  • A minimum of 5‑8 years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of fire, life safety, and building codes, including NFPA, UL, and FM standards.
  • Registered Fire Protection Professional Engineer (PE) who has passed the Fire Protection Engineering examination administered by NCEES.
  • Ability to travel to project jobsites approximately one week per month.
  • Active security clearance or the ability to obtain a security clearance.
  • Experience as a Fire Protection Engineer at a major commercial, industrial, or nuclear facility with a strong background in fire suppression and fire alarm system design.
  • Experience working on DoD government projects and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC).
  • Experience using Specs Intact to tailor Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS).
Education/Training/Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering (or related field)
Additional Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to complete a pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
Pay Rate/Salary
  • Pay Rate $58.60 - $126.70/ hr (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
