Project Overview

Bechtel is working for Northrop Grumman Corp. to deliver the Engineering, Manufacturing, and Development (EMD) portion of the Sentinel Program. A system of inter-continental ballistic missiles and launch infrastructure. Sentinel is a vital U.S. Air Force program designed to modernize the nation’s aging force of inter-continental ballistic missiles, which make up the ground element of the nuclear deterrent. As part of Northrop Grumman’s Sentinel team, Bechtel is providing launch infrastructure design, construction, and integration.

Job Summary

The Project Engineer, reporting to the Project Engineering Manager, oversees the design development of project facilities, ensuring all system requirements are met through customer review and approval. This role supervises multidisciplinary engineering activities, interprets and coordinates assignments, and independently resolves technical issues. Responsibilities include aligning site‑specific engineering documents, coordinating remote teams and resources, developing procedures, and managing staffing. The PE ensures consistent use of standard planning tools, resolves quality issues, leads support teams, and manages planning, scheduling, deliverables, and performance metrics for the Sentinel project.

Major Responsibilities
  • Directs and coordinates engineering activities for the assigned portion of the project.
  • Establishes or assists in establishing the detailed project execution plan and the development of the overall project engineering budget and schedule.
  • Inputs to and owns the engineering elements of a project capital estimate (proposals and execution) quantities and budgets.
  • Performs and manages the work in accordance with relevant Engineering Department Procedure Instructions (EDPIs) issued on the project, design guides and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
  • Develops design and procurement schedules for approval and establishes engineering budget and schedule for portions of a project or task.
  • Prepares project procedures for engineering, as required.
  • Coordinates engineering effort with Procurement, Construction, Operations, Startup, Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H), Client Regulators and Project Controls.
  • Reviews and approves design documents, change orders, material requisitions and specifications for Construction or Procurement use.
  • Supervises the preparation of, reviews and endorses bid analyses and recommendations for procurement of equipment material and services within the Engineering scope.
  • Coordinates activities among the design groups on the project.
  • Initiates requests for specialized professional services as well as coordinate with other functions (procurement, construction, startup, project controls, and estimating etc.) to ensure alignment of data and deliverables.
  • Reviews project engineering progress against approved schedules, evaluates changes and takes corrective action when required.
  • Prepares or directs the preparation of project studies, reports, forecasts, special engineering reports and plant data book.
  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to PEM and PM.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10‑13 years of relevant experience or 14‑17 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Have an active Professional Engineering license.
  • Must be able to pass a drug/background check.
  • Already acquired or able to obtain DOD Top Secret Clearance which requires a U.S. citizenship.
