Senior Electrical Designer

Location:

Job Summary

In this role, you will plan, develop, and review electrical engineering design work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, review key electrical drawings, calculations, and bid summaries, solve complex technical issues, and ensure electrical designs comply with regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead or administer the work of electrical designers and drafters, preparing layouts, study drawings, and detailed 2‑D and 3‑D CAD models and construction drawings.
  • Develop designs for complex electrical engineering systems, ensuring compliance with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Assist in constructing detailed scale models and preparing material requisitions and bid evaluations.
  • Monitor and check work for compliance with approved design standards to guarantee quality, reliability, safety, and construction economy.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and prepare design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort.
  • Coordinate or make jobsite visits to resolve problems and interpret drawings.
  • Review electrical design scope changes for project management.
  • Support design development of electrical systems and equipment for the Sentinel project, preparing models, drawings, and evaluations in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.
  • Support, coach, and train less experienced designers.
  • Model electrical rooms, equipment, cable tray, conduit, duct bank, lighting, receptacles, and other items in Smart Plant 3‑D, Smart Sketch, and AutoCAD environments.
  • Create bills of materials, drawing installation details, grounding, lightning protection, and support details using Smart Sketch and AutoCAD.
  • Perform calculations using AGI 32 for lighting layouts and ETAP for ground grid layouts.
  • Coordinate 3‑D model activities, including input and interference reconciliation with other disciplines.
  • Produce interior and exterior layouts, plans, elevation views of raceway design, equipment location and layout, lighting, lightning protection, and grounding plans.
  • Develop material specifications with Specs Intact.
  • Coordinate with systems engineering to establish and verify design/project requirements.
  • Provide independent creative design using client and industry‑proven concepts and procedures.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 7–8 years of experience or 9–12 years of relevant work experience.
  • United States citizenship required.
  • Successful completion and passing of a pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge and application of NEC code and NEMA/ANSI/IEEE Standards.
  • Experience with an electronic Cable Management System, such as SETROUTE, and ability to input and correct database entries.
  • Strong collaboration skills across disciplines.
  • Ability to manage conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
  • Relevant experience designing electrical systems and equipment for nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building electrical systems.
  • Hands‑on and advanced experience with Smart Plant 3‑D, Smart Sketch, and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with engineering and office automation tools.
  • Broad knowledge of electrical engineering design principles, systems, schematics, and layouts.
  • Knowledge of client corporate guides and standards.
  • Thorough understanding of engineering deliverables such as drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to articulate technical issues clearly and concisely in written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to resolve design issues independently and collaboratively with other engineering disciplines, construction teams, and the client.
  • Experience modeling piping, HVAC, and mechanical equipment in Smart Plant 3‑D.
  • Experience with DoD, DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, or NASA projects and quality assurance programs such as ISO‑9000.
