Role Overview

The Controls Project Engineering Manager role is a leadership-focused role responsible for guiding and developing a team of controls engineers while overseeing multiple automation projects throughout their lifecycle. The position combines technical expertise in industrial control systems with people leadership, workload management, cross-functional collaboration, and customer engagement to ensure successful project delivery in terms of quality, cost, timing, and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate brings extensive automation engineering experience, a proven track record of leading technical teams, and a strong ability to mentor, influence, and develop engineering talent.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Develops the Controls Engineering department through leadership, mentoring, and training of controls engineers, and other staff.
  • Direct supervision of controls engineers and other staff
  • Manages staffing and workload issues, including managing direct, indirect and overtime hours as they relate to workload, budget, and timing.
  • Designs controls equipment to meet customer requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Responsible for leading cross-functional technical teams throughout the lifecycle of various projects.
  • Expected to manage several on-going projects concurrently, including people, travel, customer interactions, etc.
  • Assists with the successful management of assigned programs as they relate to cost, quality, timing and customer satisfaction.
  • Designs controls equipment to meet customer requirements, applying engineering principles.
  • Influences team, department, and business unit decisions.
  • Works closely with manager in orchestrating systemic change to improve department efficiency.
  • Influential in assisting engineers in career development and advancement.
  • Works under minimum oversight from manager.
  • Exercises independent judgment, innovates, and works autonomously.
  • Recognizes and implements significant design and workflow improvements.
  • Collaborates with department leadership in executing and creating methods to develop technical talent.
  • Independently works with key talent in department to support career progression and personal development.
  • Assists the manager in developing the engineering department through leadership and training of other engineers.
  • Serve as a mentor/coach for developing engineers.
  • Able to lead discipline specific teams and influence project direction and progress.
  • Viewed as a technical expert and leader in the department.
  • Up to 25% travel.

What You'll Bring:

  • Minimum Experience:

    Eight plus years total experience;
    Two plus years leading technical projects.
  • Minimum Training:
    Five years designing and implementing control systems in the industrial automation field.
  • Demonstrated ability to positively influence engineer's development and progression.
  • Breadth and depth of experience to enterprise engineering problems.
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to accomplish tasks.
  • Able to quickly recognize and fix common engineering problems based on experience, including review / critique of others' work.
