The Role:

This role combines environmental compliance expertise with sustainability responsibilities to deliver measurable improvements across industrial operations. You will identify, plan, and implement environmental and sustainability initiatives that ensure compliance with local regulations and align with Group policy & strategy, along with best-practice environmental management.

Working closely with operational teams globally or regionally (depending on assignment), you will embed sustainability into everyday practices, helping reduce water use, waste, emissions, and biodiversity impacts across manufacturing and production sites. This role supports operational team and plays a critical part in driving progress toward our refreshed Sustainability Strategy and long-term business goals.

Your Responsibilities:

Environmental Management & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, licenses, and best practice.
  • Build and maintain Environmental Management Plans aligned with legal and Group requirements.
  • Ensure environmental considerations are integrated into risk assessments and operational procedures.
  • Submit timely and accurate environmental and sustainability data.
  • Lead or support environmental incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Liaise with regulators and certification bodies; support ISO 14001 implementation, audits, and continual improvement.
Sustainability Strategy Delivery
  • Contribute to the implementation of Group Sustainability Strategy.
  • Support environmental improvements related to water, waste, packaging, biodiversity, and operational impacts.
  • Implement sustainability campaigns, employee engagement, and continuous improvement plans.
  • Evaluate operational and capital investments for environmental risks and sustainability opportunities.
  • Support development and delivery of waste & water management plans and efficiency programs.
  • Review site waste management arrangements; promote waste hierarchy and zero‑waste‑to‑landfill goals.
  • Partner with Procurement, Engineering, Operations, and Facilities to embed sustainable practices and supplier engagement.
Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
  • Conduct inspections and audits of environmental practices across sites.
  • Work with cross‑functional stakeholders to improve environmental awareness and performance.
  • Develop and deliver training, toolbox talks, and communication materials.
  • Coordinate with external specialists for targeted environmental or sustainability projects.
  • Support multiple sites or regions as required.
Requirements:
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability, or related discipline.
  • Proven experience in environmental management and/or sustainability roles.
  • Experience with environmental permits, regulatory reporting, and compliance.
  • Experience working with manufacturing or industrial sites.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Experience developing environmental guidance, procedures, or awareness materials.
  • Familiarity with sustainability best practices and performance improvement methods.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., IEMA) is beneficial.
