Location: Hill AFB, UT
Work Schedule: 100% Onsite
Duration: 6-8 Week Contract (Starting May 1, 2026)
Pay Rate: $50/hr (Negotiable based on experience)
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented CMDB Capacity Planning Equipment Custodian to support a critical data center initiative at Hill AFB. This role will focus on executing a comprehensive validation and re-baselining of the data center environment to establish a definitive source of truth for all physical, power, and space capacity.
The ideal candidate will play a key role in validating physical inventory, reconciling discrepancies, and ensuring the CMDB system (Device
42) is fully accurate. This position directly supports modernization, consolidation, and future capacity planning efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and document all hardware assets (active, inactive, and decommissioned) to reconcile discrepancies between physical inventory and system records
- Validate and update CMDB (Device
42) to ensure it serves as the authoritative system of record - Partner daily with project leadership to align inventory efforts with modernization priorities and timelines
- Perform detailed rack-by-rack audits and update rack elevation diagrams using Microsoft Visio
- Document rack utilization, including used vs. available rack units, to establish accurate capacity baselines
- Maintain and update data center floor space diagrams
- Collect and validate power consumption data from Power Distribution Units (PDUs)
- Establish manual tracking processes for power utilization and capacity forecasting
- Collaborate with engineering teams to document cooling and power infrastructure specifications
- Support hands-on data center tasks including installation, decommissioning, and cabling
- Follow all change management, safety, and operational procedures
- Assist with decommissioning and disposal of outdated or unused equipment
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field
- Active Secret Clearance (required)
- CompTIA Security+ CE
- 5+ years of experience in data center operations, IT infrastructure, or configuration management
- Experience supporting government or DoD data center environments (e.g., DoD, DISA)
Knowledge:
- DoD asset management policies and lifecycle procedures
- Data center hardware and infrastructure (servers, networking, peripherals)
- Strong inventory management and tracking capabilities
- Excellent documentation and reporting skills for audit and compliance readiness
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills
- Ability to identify discrepancies and maintain accurate records
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with technical teams and stakeholders
