Tool and Die Machinist – Tool and Die Machinist position.

The Role:As the Tool and Die Machinist, you will set up and operate a variety of manual and CNC machine tools including lathes, milling machines, EDM, shapers, and grinders to machine metal working pieces such as patterns and machine tool or die parts, according to specifications, tooling instructions, and standard charts.
Your Responsibilities:- Analyze specification and determine tooling, applying knowledge of metal properties, machining and shop mathematics.
- Study blueprint or layout on work piece to visualize machining required and plan sequence of operations.
- Lift work piece manually or using hoist, position and secure it to holding device such as machine table, chuck, or fixture using wrenches, shims, parallel blocks, planer gauges, clamps.
- Read blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instruction such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, and determine sequence of operations.
- Position and secure work piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures using clamps and wrenches.
- Move controls to position tool and work piece relative to each other, and set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut.
- Set up fixture or feeding device, start machine and engage feed.
- Observe operation of machine and verify conformance of machined work piece to specifications using measuring instruments such as fixed gauges, calipers, micrometers and CMM.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on machines as scheduled and required for TPM.
- Work individually and as a team to develop and implement quality and efficiency improvements.
- Conduct tests and inspections of products or processes to evaluate quality or performance; examine products or work to verify conformance to specifications.
- May be required to cross train and demonstrate competency on all essential job functions of the department working at different work stations as production needs require.
- Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships; train and teach others.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area free of excess materials and support company, department, and safety policies, procedures, programs and activities.
- High school diploma or GED; with one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with production processes, machines and/or tools.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, proportions and decimals.
- Ability and understanding of various measuring devices to meet drawing dimensions and specifications.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, work instructions, diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
- Work requires continual attention to detail in follow through, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
