Description
As an Engineering Technician – Level 1 or Level 2 located in Promontory, UT, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. This position is 100 % onsite; remote work is not accommodated.
This role requires daily exposure to chemicals and explosives, and you will use specialized equipment such as Instrons, pressure chambers, and ovens for testing. Continuous improvement through 5S and Lean Manufacturing principles is required. You will fabricate inert and energetic samples, troubleshoot mechanical systems, and maintain accurate records. The position follows a 4/10 schedule with overtime as needed.
Job Responsibilities- Work with experienced technicians using test equipment including Instrons, pressure chambers, ovens, energetic safety equipment, and other instrumentation.
- Test and analyze production and subscale propellants and ingredients.
- Maintain a high standard of operational discipline to support clean, safe, and efficient operations.
- Fabricate both inert and energetic samples in accordance with specific detailed instructions.
- Read, interpret, and implement technical drawings, specifications, and procedures.
- Perform processes under the direction of a principal technician following written instructions to exact specifications.
- Maintain neat and accurate records.
- Wear personal protective equipment as required (smocks, coveralls, safety glasses, safety shoes, respirators).
- Host and demonstrate a monthly “energetics demo” that is part of EP employee training.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent with 0–2 years of additional education and/or related experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.
- Must qualify for a Department of Defense security clearance.
- Qualified for an Alcohol Tobacco and Firearm (ATF) “Explosives Possessor” designation.
- Disciplined to follow detailed instructions and comply with procedures.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to create clear and understandable documentation.
- Computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications.
- Ability to learn and troubleshoot new software programs.
- Ability to work well in a team and independently.
- High School diploma or equivalent with 2 years of additional education and/or related experience.
- Preferred associate degree in a technical field; strong background in mechanics, electronics, or industrial machinery.
- Ability to receive and follow specific instructions from policies, procedures, planning, and supervision.
- Good communication skills with the ability to understand and communicate technical information with clarity.
- Ability to read, interpret and implement technical drawings, specifications, and procedures.
- Computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, work from knees, ascend/descend ladders, lift/bend/push/pull up to 50 lb while wearing protective equipment.
- Willingness to perform shift work, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
- Possess a valid state driver’s license.
- Preferred experience with mechanical property testing equipment including Instron and MTS systems.
- Ability to obtain an Employee Possessor designation.
Primary Level Salary Range: $40,700.00 – $67,900.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $48,400.00 – $80,600.00
