Purpose and Scope
Pack and/or re‑packs a wide variety of materials. Verifies the condition code of the item to be packed and rejects those not meeting the release order requirements. Determines the type of pack required in accordance with information contained on documents and other packing and shipping instructions such as military standards, DOD Manuals, and regulatory requirements (HAZNAT, RAD). Reports to designated Lead, Supervisor or Manager.
Responsibilities- Identify, examine, classify, accept, reject, and dispose of material as per DLA regulations.
- Ensure material is properly preserved, packaged, marked, and labeled in accordance with Military Standards before releasing to storage or shipping.
- Select proper size container and cushioning from available stock to ensure protection against damage.
- Conduct basic inspection/examination procedures for material.
- Read specifications and photographs as required in DLA contract.
- Operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE) in combination with packing duties to load material on and off of skids, pallets, stands, and vehicles.
- Receive data from and input data into DSS and other automated systems; prepare basic reports.
- Count, weigh, record data, prepare and apply tags/labels.
Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
QualificationsMinimum three (3) months general work experience that demonstrates ability to perform the requirements of the position. No specific experience required. High school diploma or GED required. May substitute experience for education at the rate of one year of general experience for one year of high school. Must be able to obtain license to use MHE within 30 days of selection.
Packers who process material requiring HAZMAT certification must successfully pass training requirements. Position may require travel and a Security Clearance.
Shop environment with hazardous equipment, moving MHE, obstacles and high volume of activity. Must lift and carry up to 45 pounds for short distances, stoop, bend, kneel, walk, have full dexterity, and correctable vision. Outside work in hot, cold, or wet weather often required. Work environment may have fumes or airborne particles. Noise level is loud. Protective devices are required to avoid injury.

Compensationand Benefits
This is an hourly, overtime‑eligible position under the Service Contract Act. The advertised hourly rate is $20.92.
