Job Summary
The Miller Advanced Research and Solutions (MARS ) Center, managed by Weber State University, is developing advanced manufacturing and inspection technologies for composite aerospace structures in Ogden, Utah. The Machinist/Machine Operator will fabricate precision components and operate CNC machines, 3D printers, and composite manufacturing equipment to support cutting‑edge aerospace and defense projects while working closely with students, faculty, industry and government partners.
Responsibilities- Operating and maintaining CNC machines and 3D printers for precision component fabrication.
- Utilizing composite manufacturing equipment to produce aerospace components.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, students and faculty to plan, build, and troubleshoot manufacturing processes.
- Providing hands‑on technical instruction to students.
- Ensuring compliance with safety procedures and continuous improvement practices.
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of machining, fabrication, or composite material experience.
- Experience operating CNC machines and 3D printers.
- Preferred: Technical certification or associate degree.
- Familiarity with CAD software such as Solid Works or Inventor.
- Strong understanding of mechanical tolerances, materials, and fabrication techniques.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and ability to work independently and in teams.
- Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
- Positive criminal background check result.
- Occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds, frequent lifting up to 50 pounds, and continual lifting up to 20 pounds.
- Repetitive motion of wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Standing for sustained periods and bending at the waist or knees.
- Operating machinery requiring fine visual acuity and steady hand movements.
- Exposure to environmental conditions, noise, vibration, and potential hazards associated with manufacturing operations.
