Role Overview

The Machine Builder Assistant supports the assembly of equipment by partnering closely with Machine Builders to ensure projects meet quality, cost, and timing expectations. This role involves documenting and communicating changes or issues, maintaining an organized and safe work environment, and assisting with material preparation and secondary processes. The position requires learning to operate various shop equipment while adhering to ISO and quality standards.

The job demands strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to work independently or as part of a team, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement. Occasional travel and physical activity are required.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Machine Builders with equipment assembly
  • Document and communicate changes or problems
  • Carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Assist in executing ISO/Quality standards
  • Communicate with Machine Builders on open issues and progress during the build process
  • Support execution of assigned programs related to cost, quality, timing and customer satisfaction
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned work area
  • Prepare material for secondary processes (material finishing, heat treat, deburring)
  • Operate shop equipment safely: mill, drill press, sanders, saws
Qualifications
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic proficiency reading part and assembly drawings preferred
  • Proven mechanical aptitude with focus on safety and quality
  • Ability to accept direction and complete tasks independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain steady pace while bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and working near machines
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as required
  • Ability to obtain Hi‑Lo (Forklift), Aerial Platform and Overhead Crane license, and Lock Out Tag Out training while employed at JR
  • Travel at least 20% of the time may be required, including domestic and international travel
