- Approximately 6:00 PM (or 7:00 PM) start time, working a 9-hour shift.

Position Summary

Our client, a leading aerospace manufacturer, is seeking an experienced Machining Supervisor to lead its Machine Shop during Mid Shift. This position will provide direct leadership for CNC Machinists and machine shop personnel while ensuring production goals, quality standards, safety expectations, and customer commitments are consistently achieved.

The successful candidate will oversee daily machining operations, support production scheduling, develop employees, and drive continuous improvement throughout the machine shop. This individual will serve as the primary leader during the transition between second and third shift, ensuring effective communication, operational continuity, and efficient workflow across machining operations.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing leader with experience supervising CNC machining operations within aerospace or other precision manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and lead daily operations within the Machine Shop, providing leadership and direction to CNC Machinists and machine shop personnel.
  • Ensure machining operations meet production schedules, quality requirements, and customer delivery commitments.
  • Promote a safe working environment while ensuring compliance with all company policies and manufacturing procedures.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop machinists through performance management, training, and continuous feedback.
  • Monitor machine utilization, productivity, scrap, quality, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) to maximize operational performance.
  • Coordinate staffing, labor allocation, and workflow to optimize machine shop efficiency.
  • Partner closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Planning, and Supply Chain to resolve production issues and eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Support new product introductions, process improvements, tooling implementation, and machining best practices.
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to improve throughput, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
  • Ensure proper shift communication and seamless transition between second and third shift operations.
  • Maintain accurate production reporting and performance metrics.
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience within a CNC machining or precision manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining operations and machine shop processes.
  • Experience supervising machinists, CNC operators, or precision manufacturing personnel.
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and employee development skills.
  • Experience managing production schedules, labor utilization, and manufacturing KPIs.
  • Working knowledge of blueprint interpretation, machining processes, tooling, and manufacturing workflows.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience highly preferred.
  • Experience supervising high-mix, low-volume machining operations.
  • Familiarity with machining exotic aerospace alloys including titanium, Inconel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
  • Experience supporting CNC milling, turning, Swiss machining, or multi-axis machining operations.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, or Continuous Improvement experience.
  • Experience working closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality teams to improve machining processes and reduce cycle times.
Education

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or another technical discipline preferred. Equivalent manufacturing leadership experience within machining operations will also be considered.
