Job Summary /Basic FunctionThe Energy & Outreach Coordinator is responsible for leading statewide outreach, engagement, and implementation of locally-driven solutions that reduce climate pollution emissions, support communities, and advance clean energy and water conservation. This role plays a key part in the co-development and implementation of the Weber State Sustainability Solutions ( WSSSI ) initiative, working towards delivering on the State Beehive Emissions Reduction Plan deliverables, and reaching the university’s goal to help the region strive for carbon neutrality by 2050.
Reporting to the Sustainability Programs & Engagement Manager, and working closely with the Community Engagement Coordinator, the position will be responsible for planning and implementing community-based programs, education, and outreach throughout Utah—with special emphasis on serving rural and low-income, disadvantaged communities ( LIDAC ). Outreach and education will include promoting climate-friendly practices, supporting community (e.g., residential, small business, etc.) energy upgrades, coordinating workshops and building collaborative partnerships with municipalities, public, private, and nonprofit organizations.
The position is highly collaborative and mission-driven position focused on sustainability education, implementation and public outreach. This position is a yearly-contract position, contingent on the continuation of the current multi-year grant funding and may require occasional evening or weekend hours for events or community engagement. Travel within the state of Utah is required.
Required QualificationsRequired:
- Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience, in Sustainability, Environmental Science/Studies, Geography, Social Science, Political Science, Public Policy, Energy, Education, or a closely related field
- One year of related experience that includes experience in developing and delivering community-facing programs or educational content.
- Valid driver’s license, willingness and ability to travel across the state of Utah as needed
Preferred:
- Three or more years of experience in community outreach, sustainability education, or public engagement
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (spoken and written)
- Strong communication skills, including technical writing, public speaking, and interpersonal communication
- Familiarity with sustainability-related topics such as clean energy, water conservation, climate change, or environmental justice
- Experience designing and producing outreach and educational materials across multiple formats (print, web, social media, etc.)
- One or more years of experience supervising or coordinating volunteers, interns, or staff
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to thrive in a team-oriented, collaborative work environment
- Strong organizational, planning, and research skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Experience developing and executing strategic outreach or communication plans
The annual salary for this position starts at $44,000 and may go up from there depending on candidate qualifications.
