Job Summary and Qualifications
The Clinical Nurse Coordinator manages healthcare team members and must have excellent communication skills to effectively counsel, support, and direct. Expected to lead others through change and crisis situations. Must possess strong critical thinking skills to solve problems, delegate responsibilities to subordinates based on skill sets and scope of practice, and receive and give patient care reports. Responsibilities also include chairing committees within the department, managing resource issues (staffing), overseeing scheduling conflicts, and facilitating orientation and ongoing education of employees.
Must have clinical competence to serve as a resource to subordinates, be self‑directed with the ability to lead others. Must communicate effectively with physicians and other healthcare team members, collaborate and negotiate with co‑workers, and manage conflict. Must respond quickly under stress and to crisis situations.
The Med Surg Department Clinical Coordinator is a professional registered nurse with in-depth scientific knowledge, technical expertise, skill and competency that serves as a consultant and resource in the specialty area. The clinical educator supports system nursing initiatives and the overall nursing strategic plan by acting as a change agent within the department. In collaboration with the ER Director, the coordinator is accountable for all phases of staff development—including recruitment, orientation, retention, supervision, evaluation, and professional development.
The coordinator participates in the development of nursing education and programs that facilitate forward movement in nursing.
- Current Utah nursing license in good standing
- Minimum of three (3) years RN experience in a related specialty. Leadership and management experience is highly desirable.
- BSN preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS or BCLS) certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Advanced Life Support (ALS or ACLS) certification within 60 days of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 90 days of hire.
