EHS Field Specialist Your role

Implements safety programs to ensure a safe and accident‑free work environment. Delivers programs to train managers and employees in workplace safety practices, as well as environmental requirements and facility security measures. Maintains a system to track facility inspections, safety violations, manner of resolution and follow‑up reports. Participates in accident investigations and preparation of accident reports.

Your responsibilities
  • Manages, supports, and drives multi‑mill Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) and Facility Defense programs to ensure operations minimize the impact upon the environment and provide a safe and hazard‑free work environment. Responsible for supporting the development of and implementation of a facility‑wide EHS culture of ownership and accountability through technical support, program development, and relationship building.

  • Plans and delivers programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices. Promotes plant safety by working with all departments to analyze current situation and recommend safety improvements.

  • Investigates and reviews injuries and illnesses to determine if injury/illness results in an unsafe work practice or unsafe work environment.

  • Analyzes injury data to identify trends and types of injuries that can be prevented. Manages compliance with the company’s Facility Defense aspects as well as compliance with applicable EPA and other environmental permits and regulations.

  • Conducts management and supervisory training on current safety topics for Ardent Mills locations. Oversees contractor training compliance and ensures contractor training is conducted.

  • Reviews proposed or new regulations for content and develops new or incorporates into existing EHS policies, procedures, and programs.

  • Ensures timely and appropriate corrective action to all Environment, Security, and Health & Safety compliance audits. Manages compliance of environmental permit conditions, timely submission of environmental permit renewal applications, adherence to PSM program elements for chlorine, annual LTT certifications for all qualified workers, the annual Electrical Worker certification program, and coordination of environmental activities such as Sustainable Development and Zero‑Waste initiatives and programs.

Essential

skills and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (extensive experience may be considered as an alternative). Coursework should include safety management, safety and environment regulations, workers’ compensation, etc.

  • Minimum five years of industrial safety experience or CSP certification.

  • Health and environment experience, including hands‑on oversight in a manufacturing facility.

  • Strong training background.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience building and leading teams.

  • Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations.

  • Experience performing risk assessments preferred.

  • Ability to work various shifts on occasion to deliver training and conduct plant assessments.

  • General knowledge of EPA and environmental type regulations.

  • Strong PC skills (word processing, spreadsheets, database).

Good to have
  • Professional certification in health and safety desirable.

  • Experience dealing with and advanced knowledge of regulatory agencies, i.e., OSHA, EPA, DOT, FDA.

  • Bilingual in Spanish.

Other considerations
  • Travel up to 25%.

Market‑driven base pay; starting range $74,600.00 – $99,444.40. Additional earning potential based on experience. Incentive eligible with a target bonus of 5% Annual.
