Position: *New Store Opening* Retail Store Assistant Manager (Backcountry Outlet)

Backcountry Outlet is a new retail division built on a simple idea: expert gear guidance paired with accessible pricing. It’s a place where seasoned skiers, first‑time mountain bikers, and families alike can confidently gear up for what’s next. Our stores are powered by Gearheads who live the lifestyle—skiing, riding, hiking, and climbing—and bring that credibility to every customer interaction. This isn’t transactional retail;

it’s about connecting people to the right gear, providing expert ski, snowboard, and bike services, and creating a reason to come back.

The ideal candidate should have a passion for outdoor activities and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Retail Store Assistant Manager to assist our Retail Manager in the daily operations of our brick‑and‑mortar store. The candidate will have experience in retail management and a strong focus on customer service.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Store Manager in managing the day‑to‑day operations of the retail store, including inventory management, visual merchandising, and customer service.
  • Ensure the store is always clean, organized, and well‑stocked.
  • Assist in opening and closing the store and ensure the store is properly secured and alarm systems are functioning correctly.
  • Manage cash and credit card transactions and perform daily cash reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels, conduct regular inventory audits, and report any discrepancies to the manager.
  • Train and supervise retail staff to ensure they are knowledgeable about the processes and products and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Protect store assets following loss prevention and safety standards.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers to build loyalty and repeat business.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of marketing and promotional activities to increase sales.
Qualifications
  • 2–3 years of experience in retail management.
  • Passion for outdoor activities and knowledge of outdoor gear and apparel.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of retail operations, inventory management, and visual merchandising.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and point‑of‑sale systems.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and nights.
  • Strong ability to communicate verbally and work cooperatively with associates and customers.
Physical Requirements
  • Remain standing for up to 5 hours at a time.
  • Move around the store, coaching and directing associates; sell to customers and retrieve merchandise from the stockroom or sales floor.
  • Grab, reach, push, pull, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch to retrieve and replenish merchandise.
  • Lift or move merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ascend or descend ladders to retrieve and move merchandise.
  • Operate a computer, POS system, keyboards, merchandise scanners and mouse to accomplish work.
  • Must have a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
