Overview
The Woodworker constructs and repairs items such as boxes, crates, pallets, and storage bins from wood and wood substitutes. Reads specifications, measures, marks, and cuts boards using patterns, templates, rulers, pencils, hand and power saws.
Essential Responsibilities- Use plans, blueprints, and drawings to select, measure, cut, form, and fabricate wooden containers and platforms.
- Fasten or install parts using hammer, nailing machine, or power staple; repair defective containers by replacing damaged parts; insert wood bracings, cardboard files, and felt pads in containers.
- Build crates around objects using ruler, hand tools, and pneumatic nailer; may fabricate, repair, modify, and replace woodwork on vehicle sides and beds; apply preservative to prolong wood life; pack, seal, band, and apply markings to crates and containers.
- Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
- Minimum one-year general experience and one-year specific experience using wood shop tools, fabricating containers, or framing construction.
- Familiar with and able to operate all types of woodworking equipment.
- Demonstrated skill to assemble/fabricate wooden containers, mount-out boxes, stands, chests, skids, and platforms.
- Woodworking experience in framing, construction, cabinet making, etc.; any woodworking experience.
- Familiar with safety devices/guards attached to woodcutting machinery.
- Ability to read and understand general technical drawings.
- High school diploma or GED required; may substitute experience for education at the rate of one year of specific experience for one year of high school.
Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental DemandsShop environment with hazardous equipment, moving MHE, obstacles and high-volume activity. Must be able to lift 35 pounds and carry for short distances, stoop, bend, kneel, walk, have full dexterity, and correctable vision. Outside work in hot, cold and wet weather is often required. Work environment often has fumes or airborne particles. Noise level is loud. Protective devices are required to avoid injury.

Contractual DetailsService Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits - This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act. In accordance with Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour worked. The amount varies based on fringe benefits selected.
Compensation Details - $23.77 per hour. The posted rate is a good-faith estimate; actual compensation may vary based on responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, and applicable agreements.
