The Kearns Improvement District (KID) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Meter System / Blue Stakes Operator 1 professional to join our team. This role is vital in ensuring accurate water billing, maintaining meter systems, and supporting safe excavation practices through utility locating (Blue Stakes).

This position supports District operations by installing, maintaining, and repairing water meter systems and performing Blue Stakes utility locating services. The role involves both fieldwork and coordination with internal teams to ensure safe and accurate utility operations.
- Read, maintain, repair, and replace water meters and related equipment
- Investigate and resolve meter irregularities, leaks, and unusual water usage
- Install meters and communication devices for residential and commercial properties
- Perform meter testing, calibration, and system troubleshooting
- Respond to customer service requests, including service connections and disconnections
- Support AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) system deployment and inventory
- Conduct Blue Stakes utility locating and marking to support safe excavation
- Interpret maps and GIS data to identify underground utilities
- Maintain accurate records of meter activity and Blue Stakes requests
- Assist with emergency responses, repairs to water/sewer systems, and field operations
- Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and the public
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of related work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides similar knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Must possess a valid Utah driver’s license and good driving record
- Must obtain a Grade I State of Utah Water Distribution within six (6) months and Grade I Sewer Collection Operator Certifications within twelve (12) months of hire date
- Must complete OSHA Competent Person Training and confined space training within three (3) months of date in position
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn technical equipment and systems
- Ability to read meters, perform basic math calculations, and use field technology
- Effective communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
