Apprentice/Training Mechanic Job Description

Location:

Ogden, Utah.

Responsibilities
  • Repairs and maintains fleet vehicles and equipment including heavy to light trucks, cars, trailers, and forklifts and performs light manufacturing duties.
  • Reads problem description and diagnoses equipment to determine malfunction and corrective action necessary for repair.
  • Inspects vehicles for defective equipment.
  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on all fleet vehicle systems; overhauls gas or diesel engines.
  • Drives or operates repaired vehicles and equipment to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Installs special lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices according to technical manuals or schematic drawings.
  • Wears company provided uniform and safety devices as appropriate to comply with safety standards and present a professional image.
  • Other duties may be assigned by the immediate supervisor or other supervisor at any time.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Lead mechanic supervises subordinate mechanics.

Qualifications

Be able to travel 20% of time. Provide own basic hand tools.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Driver’s License, Commercial Driver’s License, Class A;
Forklift certified by company. Obtain and maintain OSHA forklift safety certification. Applications and certifications for equipment.

Communication Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to perform basic functions of math in all units of measure and formats. Ability to interpret rate, ratio, percent, and graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Competencies

Attention to Detail, Learning, Physical Strength, Problem Solving, Stamina, Technical Problem Solving.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
