Overview

The seasonal grounds worker supports the care, appearance, and daily functionality of the Ogden Botanical Gardens through hands‑on landscape and facility maintenance. This position assists with maintaining gardens, ground, irrigation systems, and public spaces to ensure a welcoming and safe environment for visitors and community programs.

Responsibilities
  • Planting, weeding, pruning, mulching, irrigation system upkeep, installation, and repairs.
  • Mowing and other landscape maintenance.
  • Pest and weed management.
  • General groundskeeping.
  • Operating landscape equipment such as a zero‑turn lawnmower, push mower, weed whacker, chemical and spray tanks, or side‑by‑side.
  • Assisting with basic facility upkeep, volunteer projects, and garden installation.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems, gardening practices, and horticulture practices.
  • Valid driver’s license to perform essential job responsibilities, such as driving university vehicles and transporting materials.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to meet University driver training eligibility requirements.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to and from the work site.
Advertised Salary

$15.50/hr

This position requires moderate physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting. This position requires nearly continuous standing, repetitive hand motions, and reaching overhead. Employees may be exposed to unusual elements including extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Employees may be required to operate landscape maintenance equipment and tools, including mowers, string trimmers, utility vehicles, and spray equipment. Appropriate safety procedures and personal protective equipment may be required.
