JJYS Technician II – Farmington Bay Youth Center – Graveyard Shift

A Juvenile Justice Technician works to change young lives, support families, and keep communities safe in the following environments:
- Detention
- Long Term Secure Care
- Multi-use facilities
- Community-based programs
As a Technician II, you will provide critical support and guidance to at‑risk youth, supervise, teach pro‑social skills, and attain positive behavioral outcomes. Your work assignment may be in a community setting, in a residential shelter or treatment setting, or in a secure youth correctional facility. The role is dynamic, challenging and rewarding as youth mature and change due to the interventions provided by JJYS team members.

Utah Division of Juvenile Justice and Youth Services (JJYS) provides a continuum of prevention, intervention, supervision and rehabilitation services and programs to youth offenders while assuring public safety. Roles And Responsibilities- Work closely with youth ordered into the care and custody of JJYS
- Monitor visitors and residents within the facility
- Schedule and coordinate activities for the youth
- Assist the Control Supervisor by making perimeter checks
- Resolve potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, clients, and or the public by applying appropriate intervention techniques
- Participate in New Employee Training and de‑escalation training within the first 90 days
- Transport youth
- Provide a continuum of intervention, supervision, and rehabilitation programs to youth offenders while assuring public safety
- Communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely in writing
- Willingness to be part of a thriving team focused on changing young lives, supporting families, and keeping communities safe.
- Availability to work rotating shifts, days, swings, graveyard, weekends and holidays
- Candidates 19 years of age or older
- Candidates with a high school diploma or GED
- Candidates that speak multiple languages
- A valid Utah driver’s license

- High risks in this job include physical intervention with clients in order to de‑escalate hostile or volatile situations.
- Work requires physical exertion and the ability to stand, walk over rough surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, and lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
