Position OverviewThe Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for leading safe, effective, and enjoyable group exercise classes for the Campus Recreation Department at Weber State University. GrpX Instructors monitor group exercise participants, creating a supportive and inclusive exercise environment for participants while developing fitness instruction skills and knowledge. This position reports to the Fitness Coordinator. This is a pooled position; applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available.
After a period of time the pool will expire and applicants will be notified.
The Group Exercise Instructor will:
- Lead safe, effective, and enjoyable group exercise classes for university students, staff, and community members.
- Monitor class participants to ensure safety, proper technique, and a positive experience.
- Develop and maintain instructional skills and knowledge through ongoing education and training.
- Create an inclusive and supportive exercise environment for all participants.
Required:
- American Red Cross CPR / AED and Standard First Aid certifications.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and relational service skills.
- Prior group exercise experience.
- Nationally recognized fitness certification (e.g., ACE, AFAA).
- Completion of academic group exercise courses recommended.
- Academic major preference:
Athletic Training, Nutrition, Health Promotion, Dance, Physical Education, Human Performance Management, or related major.
Preferred:
- Completion of academic group exercise courses.
- Academic major preference as listed above.
- Complete the online application.

- Attach a current nationally recognized fitness certificate for “Other Document”.
- Keep payroll documents in payroll prior to being paid.
- Screening of applicants will begin immediately.
- Due to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), individuals who have worked in a salaried capacity for Weber State University are ineligible to be hired as an hourly or adjunct employee for six months.
- Criminal background check is required as a condition of employment.
Medium work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical work includes walking, standing, crouching, bending, lifting, operating equipment, and using upper extremities for various tasks. Visual acuity, including color, depth perception, and field of vision, is required. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
