The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Children's Mental Health Unit provides direct, personalized care to pediatric patients experiencing mental health and behavioral challenges. Working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the LPN collaborates with patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members to deliver high-quality, safe, and supportive care in alignment with Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center (CHMC) standards.
Responsibilities:
- Patient Care & Support:
Provide direct medical aid and supportive care to patients experiencing a variety of physical and behavioral health conditions. - Monitoring & Documentation:
Observe and accurately document patient condition, behavior, and vitals. Promptly report any changes or concerns to the supervising RN or Charge Nurse. - Medication Administration:
Administer medications and provide medication education and counseling to patients and their families. - Health
Education:
Provide health teaching, counseling, and crisis intervention as assigned. - Team
Collaboration:
Work effectively within the interdisciplinary team and serve as an active member of the Code Orange response team. - Intervention & Execution:
Perform assigned intervention tasks efficiently under the direction of the Charge Nurse. - Safety & Compliance:
Maintain a safe, clean, and secure environment following hospital infection control protocols, quality assurance standards, and regulatory requirements. Protect patient privacy by maintaining strict confidentiality.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. - Licensure:
Valid New York State (NYS) LPN license required. - Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
- Mandated Child Abuse Reporter training required.
- Crisis Intervention Training (required within hospital orientation period).
- Experience:
Prior mental health experience preferred. - Key
Skills: - Proficiency in trauma-informed care principles.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse personalities.
- Basic computer literacy.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in clinical documentation.
Physical Requirements:
- Position involves standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
The listed base pay range is a good-faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants and may be modified in the future. Actual pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contractual agreements. * This rate doesn't include the evening shift differential of $5 for hours worked between 3p-11p (must work 4 hours to qualify).
