Program Assistant

Position Title

The purpose of this position is to assist students with physical, emotional, and learning disabilities, individually or in small groups, with learning tasks and other tasks assigned by the teacher.

• Assigns work to students.
• Takes over classes when teacher has parent conferences, problems, emergencies, etc.
• Prepares classroom materials; assists in the clean up of materials.
• Maintains records such as attendance, collection of funds, field trips, student files, etc., and performs grading of student assignments.
• Monitors students at various times including cafeteria, seat work, assemblies, etc.
• Assists individual students and small groups with learning tasks as assigned by the teacher.
• Assists students with make-up work.
• Assists substitute teachers.
• Administers first aid to sick or injured students until nurse can take over.
• Assists physically handicapped students with restroom needs.
• Assists physically handicapped students on and off the bus.
• Works closely with physical and occupational therapists, speech therapist, and other personnel.
• Records behavior problems

• Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
• Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree; or
• Met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a local assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness).

• Ability to lift and/or carry weights of ten to twenty pounds.
• Work involves walking or standing most of the time, but may involve sitting for brief times.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate decimals and percentages.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, principals, teachers, parents, volunteers, counselors, nurses, health aides, other corporation personnel, and the general public verbally and in writing.

This position earns $19.01 per hour. Position is paid 26 times a year. So total pay is spread out over the summer months. This position can be combined with driving a bus for full time benefits and pay.
