Kelly is currently seeking an experienced Waste Water Operator in the Newburgh, IN area! This role will be on a 12 hour rotating schedule between days and nights with a 4-on-4-off structure. In a team environment with multi-craft skillsets the Operator is responsible for understanding the physical and chemical functions of treatment processes and applying their particular experience and skills to perform routine operational activities, evaluating process performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement changes to improve process conditions as needed.

This position is responsible for multiple unit processes in an Industrial facility to achieve and satisfy the necessary operational requirements. This position performs full operations of industrial utility services including but not limited to wastewater treatment, steam boilers, high temperature hot water boilers, water filtration, and all associated support equipment. Performs predictive and corrective maintenance of all process equipment contributing to one or more skilled areas such as pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, instrumentation, PLC logic, and mechanical maintenance.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Operates equipment manually and through instrumentation panels, computer terminals and programmable logic control units following process control procedures. Monitors and observes operating conditions, records observations and data in shift log.

  • Diagnoses basic operational problems and takes corrective action per procedure.

  • Adhere to safety practices and procedures while conducting operational functions including but not limited to:

  • Chemical deliveries
  • Chemical process applications
  • Solids handling
  • Hazardous waste generation
  • Housekeeping activities
  • Sample collection
  • Routine laboratory testing
  • Inventory management
  • Maintenance activities on pipes, pumps, valves, motors, mixers, tanks, etc.
  • Electrical instrumentation calibration checks and maintenance
Work Environment:
  • Spends 75% of time in an operations environment and 25% in an office setting.

  • May be exposed to possible operations hazards including fumes, toxic and caustic chemicals, heavy machinery, high pressure, hot or cold work environment temperatures, slippery surfaces, water hazards and electrical equipment.

  • Shifts are 12 hours on a rotating schedule between days and nights with a 4-on-4-off structure. Opportunities for day shift schedules are available.

Physical Requirements:
  • Amount of time spent – Standing 50%, Walking 50%.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger and reach with hands and arms.

  • The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Will be required to use ladders or stairs.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Requires close visual observation to detect process non-conformance and machine malfunction.

Qualifications Education/Experience/Background:
  • High School Diploma/GED is required.

  • Skilled vocational trade training and/or 2-4 years on the job equivalent training in related industrial operations, mechanical maintenance, electrical/instrumentation or PLC experience in a utilities environment with knowledge of methods, principles and practices of operating, maintaining and repairing utility equipment, instrumentation and associated systems.

  • Candidates with strong hands-on mechanical, electrical, and programming skills and experience are highly valued and encouraged to apply, regardless of formal degrees or certifications.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Proven ability to execute both preventive and corrective maintenance protocols across facility systems.

  • Must demonstrate proficiency with computer programs for process control, Computer Maintenance Management System and laboratory / industrial pretreatment QA/QC.

  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), including respirators, gas detectors, confined space equipment, etc.)

  • Technical proficiency in replacing mechanical seals, bearings, oil seals, gaskets, and other critical components.

  • Experience performing maintenance and technical repairs on various hydraulic systems, including centrifugal, dosing, and submersible pumps.

  • Skilled in the upkeep and repair of mechanical agitators and associated industrial machinery.

  • Demonstrated capability in interpreting technical drawings, including exploded views and assembly diagrams.
