Registered Nurse; RN Pre​/Post Operative Care - PRN

Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for preparing and educating patients and families on pre- and post-operative instructions, including recovering patients after outpatient procedures.

PRN basis: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 0600 AM – 0300 PM CST as needed

Regular attendance and reporting to work promptly are an essential part of this position.

• Assesses patient status on admission to pre-op or post-op area, and on a continuing basis.
• Provides safe, quality patient care to the pre-op and post-op patient by utilizing the nursing process and nursing diagnosis in a timely manner and by setting appropriate priorities. Coordinates nursing interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes and to ensure readiness for discharge.
• Observe and interpret patient’s symptoms and communicate them to physicians.
• Collaborate with physicians and nurses to devise individualized care plans for patients.
• Perform routine procedures (blood pressure measurements, administering injections, etc.) and fill in patients’ charts.
• Administration of medications and IV fluids based on age of the patient and patient’s clinical condition.
• Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders.
• Charts patient information accurately and timely.
• Inspect the facilities and act to maintain hygiene and safety (decontaminating equipment, sanitizing surfaces, preparing beds, etc.).
• Provide instant medical care in emergencies.
• Assist surgeons during procedures if required.

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program
• 1-2 years of PACU, CCU, ICU, ER experience required
• Ambulatory Surgery Center or Outpatient Clinic experience preferred
• ACLS and BLS certifications required

Requires the physical ability and stamina (e.g., to walk/stand, talk) for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs, position/lift patients more than 50 pounds without assistance, provide CPR, etc., to perform the essential functions of the position.
