Position Summary
CBIZ Talent Solutions is assisting our client in their search for a Construction Staff Accountant.
The Construction Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting project accounting for a growing construction company. This position is responsible for managing the Work in Progress (WIP) schedule, preparing and reviewing Schedule of Values (SOV), supporting monthly closes, reconciling accounts, and assisting with billing and collections. The ideal candidate will have experience in construction accounting, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers and other departments.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and update monthly Work in Progress (WIP) schedules, working closely with project managers to ensure accurate tracking of project costs, revenues, and percent completion.
- Review and prepare Schedule of Values (SOV) for projects, coordinating with project teams to ensure accuracy, proper coding, and timely submission to clients or general contractors.
- Support the month-end close process by reconciling accounts, posting journal entries, and preparing project-specific reports.
- Monitor job costs, change orders, labor, materials, and overhead allocations, ensuring all expenses accurately captured and reported.
- Track accounts receivable, follow up on outstanding invoices, and help resolve billing discrepancies with clients or contractors.
- Assist with annual audits by preparing supporting schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Support process improvements and implementation of best practices in construction accounting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience; construction accounting experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of construction accounting concepts, including WIP and SOV.
- Proficiency with accounting software (such as Sage 300, Viewpoint, Foundation, or Quick Books) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with project teams and clients.
- Knowledge of AIA billing documents is a plus.
