The Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for overseeing the full accounts payable function, managing a team of five AP Clerks, and ensuring accurate and timely processing of vendor payments. This role will lead process improvements, develop scalable procedures and internal controls, and partner cross-functionally with accounting, procurement, and operations teams to support the company’s continued growth.
Key Responsibilities- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of five Accounts Payable Clerks
- Oversee daily AP operations including invoice processing, approvals, and vendor payments
- Build and improve accounts payable processes, procedures, and internal controls
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of high-volume invoices and payments
- Monitor workflow efficiency and implement process improvements and automation initiatives
- Review vendor reconciliations and resolve escalated discrepancies or payment issues
- Partner with accounting leadership on month-end close, accruals, and audit support
- Maintain compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and payment terms
- Develop reporting and metrics related to AP performance, aging, and cash flow
- Collaborate with procurement and operations teams to streamline purchasing and payment processes
- Assist with ERP system enhancements, implementations, or upgrades
- Establish and document standard operating procedures for the AP department
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounts payable experience
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience managing AP staff
- Strong understanding of AP processes, controls, and best practices
- Experience building or improving accounting processes and procedures
- Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or multi-location environments
- ERP system experience such as SAP, Oracle Net Suite, Microsoft Dynamics 365, or Oracle
- Experience leading process improvement or automation initiatives
