The Accounting Manager will lead and oversee the General Accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and efficient close processes. This Accounting Manager plays a critical role in maintaining financial integrity while driving continuous improvement across accounting operations. The ideal Accounting Manager brings a combination of technical expertise, leadership experience, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and team development.
Key Responsibilities- Lead daily accounting operations, including general ledger activities
- Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Analyze budget-to-actual variances and support budgeting and forecasting
- Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets
- Audit financial data, identify discrepancies, and implement corrective actions
- Develop and maintain financial models, reconciliations, and reports (Excel-based)
- Support audits, cash flow analysis, tax work, and special projects
- Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, IT, Sales, and Operations
- Manage, mentor, and develop accounting team members
- Assign, review, and evaluate work to ensure accuracy and efficiency
- Provide guidance on complex accounting issues and transactions
- Support employee development through coaching and goal setting
- Address performance and employee relations matters
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial reporting
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, SUMIF)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Experience in a service-based organization or public accounting
- CPA or CMA certification
- Experience with Great Plains or similar ERP/accounting systems
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Proven leadership and team development capabilities
