Job Description

This role supports construction projects by coordinating field activities, managing project documentation, and assisting with administrative and technical tasks from preconstruction through project completion. The Construction Project Engineer ensures accurate records, facilitates communication among project stakeholders, and helps maintain schedule, quality, and contractual compliance on mechanical, sheet metal, and HVAC-related projects.

Responsibilities

+ Review weekly time records to ensure employees' hours are accurately recorded, complete, and assigned to the proper job and phase.

+ Assist in monitoring site personnel for timely reporting and attendance, and ensure all employees' administrative requirements are properly documented and filed.

+ Maintain office supply inventories and coordinate the maintenance and servicing of office equipment.

+ Assist in the completion, compilation, and submission of daily and weekly project reports.

+ Conduct and/or schedule onsite orientations for new or visiting personnel as required.

+ Schedule and coordinate meetings and appointments for managers or supervisors, ensuring all participants receive necessary information and documentation.

+ Maintain and organize all records, reports, and drawings associated with installation progress, quality control, and testing.

+ Verify project conformance with contract drawings, coordination drawings, and specifications, and help document any deviations.

+ Prepare, track, and help manage Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify design or scope issues.

+ Create, maintain, and update punch lists and completion lists to support project closeout and ensure all items are addressed.

+ Compile, organize, and manage closeout and commissioning documents to support final project turnover.

+ Update BIM Box and Data Vault files to ensure project documentation and models remain current and accessible.

+ Participate in site coordination and review meetings from preconstruction through project completion, and prepare and update meeting minutes as required.

+ Track and log materials and equipment deliveries, ensuring accurate documentation for project records.

+ Manage onsite and offsite material and tool inventory, including the rental and inventory of project equipment.

+ Analyze bulletins, Architect's Supplemental Instructions (ASIs), RFIs, and other project documents to identify impacts on scope, schedule, or cost.

+ Assist in the preparation, assembly, submission, and logging of change documentation, including change order support materials.

+ Draft contract administration correspondence to document project issues, clarifications, and agreements in a professional and timely manner.

Essential Skills

+ Experience as a Construction Project Engineer, supporting field and office project activities.

+ Background in mechanical or sheet metal construction, with exposure to HVAC systems and related construction practices.

+ Ability to read, interpret, and work with construction documents, including contract drawings, coordination drawings, and specifications.

+ Strong project coordination skills, including scheduling meetings, tracking deliverables, and maintaining logs.

+ Proficiency in managing construction documentation such as RFIs, bulletins, ASIs, change documents, punch lists, and closeout packages.

+ Attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing time records, reports, and project documentation.

+ Strong organizational skills to maintain records, inventories, and document repositories such as BIM Box or Data Vault.

+ Effective written and verbal communication skills for drafting correspondence, preparing meeting minutes, and coordinating with project stakeholders.

+ Ability to work on-site at project locations and collaborate closely with field personnel and supervisors.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred but not required).

+

Experience with mechanical, sheet metal, and HVAC project management or coordination.

+ Familiarity with construction change order processes and supporting documentation.

+ Experience participating in site coordination and review meetings throughout the project lifecycle.

+ Comfort working with digital document management tools and systems for drawings, models, and project records.

+ Strong time management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced project environment.

Work Environment

This position is based on-site at active construction projects in the local Columbus area, minimizing the need for extensive travel. The role involves regular interaction with field crews, supervisors, and project stakeholders in a construction environment that includes mechanical, sheet metal, and HVAC installations. Work hours generally follow a standard weekday schedule, with the potential for half-day Fridays depending on project schedule and demands.
