Landscape Construction Foreman/Forewoman

The Landscape Construction Foreman/Forewoman is responsible for leading and supervising landscape construction crews on residential and commercial projects. This position oversees the installation of landscape improvements, including hardscapes, plantings, grading, drainage systems, irrigation components, and other landscape features, while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.

Working closely with Project Managers and the Landscape Operations Manager, the Foreman/Forewoman coordinates daily job site activities, manages crew performance, maintains quality standards, and serves as the primary field representative for project execution. This position requires strong leadership skills, effective communication, and the ability to motivate crew members while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.

The Foreman/Forewoman may occasionally communicate with client representatives and must be willing to work extended hours, weekends, and during varying weather conditions as project needs require.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Leading, supervising, and training landscape construction crew members.
  • Coordinating and prioritizing daily work activities with the Project Manager.
  • Reviewing project plans, specifications, and job requirements before beginning work.
  • Organizing labor, equipment, and materials to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Ensuring all work is completed according to project specifications, company standards, and quality expectations.
  • Completing and submitting all required paperwork, including timesheets, daily reports, safety documentation, and equipment inspections.
  • Maintaining accurate records of labor, equipment usage, and production activities.
  • Conducting daily job site safety meetings and enforcing all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring crew compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
  • Performing regular inspections to ensure quality control throughout all phases of construction.
  • Maintaining and overseeing equipment assigned to the crew, including inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and reporting maintenance needs.
  • Coordinating equipment repairs and replacement needs with management.
  • Communicating project progress, delays, material needs, and job site concerns to the Project Manager.
  • Assisting in identifying change orders, additional work opportunities, and potential project improvements.
  • Managing job site logistics, including deliveries, staging areas, and material inventory.
  • Delegating responsibilities effectively and holding crew members accountable for performance expectations.
  • Evaluating crew members' performance and assisting with employee development and training.
  • Performing skilled construction tasks as needed alongside crew members.
  • Preparing job sites and resources for upcoming work activities.
  • Ensuring customer satisfaction through professional conduct and quality workmanship.
  • Qualifications to perform this job successfully include:

    Education and experience:

    • Minimum of 3-5 years of landscape construction experience preferred.
    • Previous supervisory or crew leadership experience preferred.
    • Experience reading landscape plans, layouts, and construction drawings.
    • Knowledge of landscape installation methods, grading, drainage, planting, and hardscape construction.
    • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
    • Certificates and licenses:

      • Valid Driver's License required.
      • CDL preferred but not required.
      • OSHA 30-Hour Certification preferred.
      • Industry certifications such as CLT (Certified Landscape Technician) are preferred.
    • Equipment used:

      • Forklift
      • Plate Compactor
      • Cut-off Saw / Concrete Saw
      • Chainsaw
      • Augers
      • Laser Level / Transit

      • Trenchers and grading equipment
      • Landscape construction equipment as required

      Work environment characteristics include:

      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical equipment, dust, noise, uneven terrain, and airborne particles. The employee may occasionally be exposed to vibration, chemicals, and other construction-related hazards.

      The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate to loud.

      Physical demands include:

      • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
      • Regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb.
      • Frequently use hands and arms for lifting, operating equipment, and performing construction tasks.
      • Work for extended periods outdoors in varying weather conditions.
      • Regularly communicate with crew members, managers, vendors, and customers.
