As a Data Center Construction Manager, you will be part of a team solving problems in constructing Amazon Data Centers. Our data centers emphasize energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness. You will work with partner teams such as Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning to build data centers that support customers.

You will work on electrical and mechanical systems on construction sites daily, acting as Amazon’s owner’s representative. You will drive cost, schedule, and quality while managing construction vendors and contractors building data centers.

Responsibilities

The Data Center Construction Manager is responsible for construction project management and oversight of construction-related activities for new builds or general capital projects, owning the scope, quality, schedule, and budget.

  • Direct interface with construction general contractors during bidding, award, execution, and project closeout/punch list phases.
  • Negotiate with general contractors and evaluate bids/proposals with accuracy.
  • Create construction project scope and requests for proposals.
  • Perform financial analysis of construction.
  • Manage construction projects aimed at increasing data center resiliency.
  • Conduct constructability reviews of electrical and mechanical designs for new data centers or optimization of existing ones.
  • Manage construction documents including submittal reviews, RFIs, change orders, and invoicing.
  • Ensure construction project quality control and record/report key construction metrics to team members and management.
  • Drive teams to perform troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for equipment failures.
  • Lead internal and external teams supporting the data center as an owner’s representative.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Experience carrying new design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production
  • Experience with MS Excel, Word, and Windows operating systems
  • Experience with power management and power monitoring systems
  • US Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of project management in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure
  • Knowledge of critical data center equipment
  • Knowledge of engineering documentation, electrical diagrams, and standard operating procedures
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, or OSHA
  • Experience in data center engineering operations with deep understanding of electrical and mechanical data center infrastructure
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction specifications and drawings for all domains
