Estimator​/Salesperson

Job Summary

The Estimator/Salesman is responsible for developing new business and preparing accurate, competitive estimates for asphalt paving, prep, and excavation projects. This role owns the sale from first contact through signed contract, then hands off a complete, documented scope to operations. This role requires a self-directed seller who builds long-term customer relationships and protects company margin.

• Develop New Business:
  Prospect, build, and maintain relationships with property owners, general contractors, HOAs, developers, local governments, and commercial and institutional customers throughout the service area.
• Perform Takeoffs and Estimates:
  Complete site visits, field measurements, and takeoffs, and prepare accurate, complete estimates in the estimating software.
• Sell the Work:
  Present proposals to customers, follow up on all open proposals, and close work at or above company margin standards.
• Forecast Project Costs:
  Accurately forecast the cost, size, and duration of future construction and project operations.
• Vendor and Client Communication:
  Communicate with vendors, clients, contractors, and management regarding detailed cost estimation.
• Subcontractor Coordination:
  Collect quotes from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers, and ensure their best numbers are secured.
• Data Analysis:
  Analyze a variety of cost data to ensure company resources are optimized.
• Cost Reporting:
  Prepare detailed cost estimate reports, combine estimate breakouts, and schedule milestones to produce a baseline cash-flow for project management.
• Pipeline Management:
  Maintain accurate and current job, proposal, and customer records in the estimating software.
• Project Handoff:
  Hand-off sold work to operations with complete scope, quantities, site conditions, and customer commitments documented.
• Risk Management:
  
  Identify potential risks in the estimation process and develop strategies to mitigate them.
• Continuous Improvement:
  Provide input on the development and refinement of estimating units used in the estimating system to ensure accurate estimates of equipment, material, labor durations, and total costs.
• Align with EOS:
  Ensure all estimating and sales activities align with the principles and practices of the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS).
• Champion Mission and Values:
  Uphold, hold accountable, and champion Kingsway Services' mission and core values in all aspects of the role.

• Proven experience in estimating and/or construction sales, preferably in Paving & Excavating.
• Ability to read plans and specifications and perform accurate quantity takeoffs.
• Proficiency in estimating software and tools.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Familiarity with EOS principles and practices is a plus.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
