Job Summary The Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and profitable cost estimates for commercial construction and landscape development projects. This position plays a critical role in the preconstruction process by analyzing project plans, specifications, labor requirements, material costs, equipment needs, and subcontractor pricing. The Estimator works closely with clients, vendors, project managers, and operations teams to ensure bids are comprehensive, aligned with company goals, and supportive of successful project execution.
The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, keen attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of construction methods and industry practices.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities Preconstruction & Estimating
- Review construction drawings, specifications, contract documents, and project requirements to prepare detailed cost estimates.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for site development, earthwork, hardscape, concrete, irrigation, planting, erosion control, and related construction scopes.
- Develop complete bid proposals including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor costs, permits, and contingencies.
- Solicit, evaluate, and analyze subcontractor and vendor quotations.
- Maintain organized estimating files, project records, and bid documentation.

- Assist in value engineering and cost-saving recommendations during the bidding process.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs.
- Collaborate with operations and project management teams to review project scope, constructability, and sequencing.
- Support project turnover by providing detailed estimate information and assumptions.
- Assist with pricing change orders, contract modifications, and additional work requests.
- Foster strong relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of estimating experience in commercial construction, landscape construction, civil construction, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of construction means, methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software such as Plan Swift, Bluebeam, STACK, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Landscape Construction, or a related discipline.
- Experience estimating commercial landscaping, site development, or municipal construction projects.
- Knowledge of local construction markets, suppliers, and subcontractor networks.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus.
- Ability to conduct site visits and walk active construction sites.
- Ability to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
