As the Residency Program Director for CAC, Valley View Health Centers, you will lead a dedicated team to provide a high quality, comprehensive, and patient-centered learning clinical experience. Directing a residency program requires a deep commitment to graduate dental education in general, and to the educational welfare of a program’s residents. The Program Director will be accountable for the development, administration, and successful continuation of the residency program.

This individual will promote and maintain an educational environment conducive to instruction and learning in a community health center setting.

Effort: 90 % Responsibilities, Deliverables, Outcomes and Expectations
  • Oversees the development and operations of the residency program.
  • Serve on the GMEC and additional committee(s) as needed.
  • Develop program policies, procedures, and curricula compliant with Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with program- and institutional- specific policies and procedures by program faculty and residents.
  • Identify and select qualified dental practitioners to participate as program faculty.
  • Appoint faculty to serve as site directors for all participating program sites.
  • Ensure all program faculty maintain board certification in their respective specialties.
  • Complete competency evaluations for residents and faculty.
  • Develop long-term strategies to improve and advance program quality.
  • Recruit, interview, and select qualified candidates through the National Residency Matching Program.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and provide feedback to faculty members regarding their performance.
  • Effectively use technology to complete resident and faculty evaluations and program assessments.
  • Ensure scholarly activity requirements are maintained by program faculty and residents.
  • Dedicate 50% of non-clinical time to the program, including administration, completion of evaluations, scholarly endeavors, resident precepting, and teaching.
  • Monitor resident progress and report to required boards and committees.
  • Develop and maintain the resident handbook.
  • Schedule and oversight of all clinical and didactic activities.
  • Supervise resident clinical logs to ensure compliance with CODA guidelines.

  • Provide direct patient care supporting the mission, efficient clinical operations, student/resident education, or the best interest of the patient.
  • Demonstrate clinical competence as an active dentist.
  • Ensure faculty supervision of residents at all participating sites.
Functional Area:

  • Other responsibilities may include, but is not limited to, serving as part of various committees (ad hoc or standing), work groups, and service teams within Valley View Health Center or CAC.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the mission of the organization in promoting oral health.
Education
  • DDS or DMD from a CODA-accredited dental school required.
  • Certificate from a CODA-accredited GPR or Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency program.
Job-Related Experience
  • Preference given to direct patient care experience in a community health center and/or FQHC dental program(s).
People Management Experience
  • Previous supervision experience given preference.
  • Possess excellent leadership and communication skills.
Licenses, Certifications, and Accreditations
  • Unrestricted Ohio license to practice dentistry or Ohio eligible; with current DEA.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 years full-time experience teaching in an accredited GPR or AEGD program, or equivalent experience as a general dentist.
  • Maintain board certification by the American Board of General Dentistry (ABGD).
  • Knowledge of ACGME policies, procedures, and requirements.
