The Elam Mental Health Center (MHC) provides many clinical services, which include a 34-bed residential treatment program, a program for pregnant and post-partum women, Intensive Outpatient, and Outpatient programs all of which are for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders, an after school program for adolescents with co-occurring substance use disorders and the outpatient psychiatry clinic. Clinical services are provided for individuals from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic status with multidisciplinary teams.

The Site Director at TVHS will coordinate educational and clinical supervision for the Meharry Psychiatry residents at the Alvin

C. York Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, located in Murfreesboro, TN. Individuals with interest and experience with Addiction Psychiatry are encouraged to apply.

Psychiatrists will have faculty appointments commensurate with experience and scholarly accomplishments Faculty members participate in the education of trainees in the department including medical students, psychiatry and family medicine residents. Our psychiatry residency program is approved for 24 residency positions.

We are a medical school-based program committed to the community and provide treatment for substance use and psychiatric disorders for the insured, the medically underserved and under-insured. The department holds collaborative training and service grants with the Department of Family and Community Medicine, the state of Tennessee, and the federal government. We have a strong foot-hold in community-based rotation sites, including Cherokee Health System, which support the education of trainees in development of a diverse physician workforce to provide behavioral health services within a primary care setting.

We are seeking successful candidates with diverse scientific and scholarly interests. Salary will be commensurate with rank and experience. We will interview for these positions until they are filled.
