Senior Medical Director Pathology
Seeking a board certified pathologist to serve as senior medical director in a well established, hospital employed, general pathology practice. Cytopathology fellowship is preferred but not required. This is a full time position with call coverage of 1:3. Leadership experience preferred. Participation in weekly tumor board meetings. Work schedule is 8:00am – 4:00pm Monday – Friday, every third Saturday. Call is 1:3, approximately 17 weeks per year, with 24 hour call during the week on call.
Most call is handled over the telephone, with 1-2 calls per night on average, usually for blood bank purposes/critical value related. Very rare to return to hospital, but must be located within 20 minutes of hospital for cases coming from OR. Staff includes 3 histotechs, 2 tech assistants, 2 cytotechnologists, department manager, and administrative director. Approximately 9, surgical cases per year, approximately 1,000-1,500 non-GYN cytology cases per year, and approximately 7,000 GYN cases per year.
Cases are heavy in breast, lung, and GI. No autopsies, bone marrows, neuro, pediatric, minimal hematopathology. Uses Meditech and Dragon Medical One.
Staff are eligible for clinical adjunct faculty status. Two-year contract includes: vacation, holidays/sick days; CME/books and journals; deferred compensation; retirement/savings plan; moving expense; malpractice insurance coverage; health insurance; medical school loan repayment; residency stipend; sign on bonus; and bonus incentives.
Community/facility info: 222 not-for-profit hospital with 2200 employees and 140 active medical staff. 14,000+ surgical procedures per year. Recent new construction includes patient care addition, nursing units, new clinical laboratory, new medical library, new front entrance, new surgery and emergency department, additional parking for physicians, maternity department, and critical care department.
