Pathology Medical Director | $525K Base + $70K+ Bonus | Southern Ohio River Valley

An established regional healthcare system in scenic southern Ohio is seeking an experienced, Board Certified Pathologist to join as Senior Medical Director of Pathology. This exceptional leadership opportunity offers a competitive compensation package with a base salary up to $525,000 annually, plus a performance bonus exceeding $70,000, and comprehensive benefits including student loan repayment assistance.

Position Overview

As the Pathology Medical Director, you will lead a hospital-employed pathology practice with a balanced general case mix in a supportive, well-resourced department. This role combines clinical pathology with strategic leadership responsibilities, allowing you to shape departmental growth while maintaining clinical excellence. The position features predictable scheduling, manageable call rotation, and robust support staff-without the burden of performing autopsies or managing high-complexity subspecialty cases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive anatomic and clinical pathology services for the healthcare system
  • Lead and oversee the pathology department as Senior Medical Director
  • Direct departmental initiatives and strategic planning efforts
  • Manage and mentor pathology team members and support staff
  • Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, and other accreditation standards
  • Collaborate with hospital administration and medical staff leadership
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement programs
  • Interpret diagnostic specimens including surgical pathology and cytology cases
  • Maintain current knowledge of pathology best practices and innovations
Required Qualifications
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree
  • Board Certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by ABMS or AOA
  • Eligible for Ohio medical licensure or currently licensed in Ohio
  • Strong leadership capabilities and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance
  • Commitment to quality patient care and diagnostic accuracy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Fellowship training in Cytopathology
  • Previous medical director or pathology leadership experience
  • Experience with laboratory information systems and digital pathology
  • Track record of successful departmental management
