Job Description:
UToledo Health and the University of Toledo Health and the Collegeof Medicine and Life Sciences invites applications for a Transplant Surgeon; specializing in kidney, pancreas, and livertransplantation. This is an outstanding opportunity to join agrowing academic transplant program committed to delivering exceptional patient care, advancing clinical innovation, educatingfuture physicians, and expanding access to life-saving transplantservices throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive surgical carefor patients with end-stage organ disease, participate in thegrowth and development of the transplant program, and contribute tothe institution's missions of clinical excellence, education,research, and community engagement.
Minimum Qualifications:- Perform kidney, pancreas, and liver transplant procedures,including deceased and living donor transplantation.
- Evaluate and manage patients throughout the transplantcontinuum, including pre-transplant evaluation, operative care, andlong-term post-transplant follow-up.
- Participate in organ procurement activities and donor recoveryprocedures.
- Provide inpatient and outpatient transplant surgical care.
- Participate in a shared call schedule for transplantsurgery.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary transplant teams, includingtransplant nephrology, hepatology, anesthesia, critical care,infectious disease, pathology, radiology, nursing, pharmacy,nutrition, and social work.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements established byUNOS, OPTN, CMS, and other accrediting organizations.
- Promote quality improvement initiatives focused on patient safety, outcomes, and operational excellence.
- Participate in clinical, translational, and outcomes-basedtransplant research.
- Develop scholarly activities leading to peer-reviewedpublications and presentations at regional and nationalmeetings.
- Collaborate with basic science and clinical investigatorsacross the University.
- Pursue opportunities for grant funding and clinical trials.
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of one of the following training pathways:
- An accredited General Surgery Residency followed by fellowshiptraining in Abdominal Organ Transplant Surgery, with Board Certification or Board Eligibility in General Surgery; or
- An accredited Urology Residency followed by fellowship training in Transplant Urology or Renal Transplantation, with Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Urology.
- Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State ofOhio.
- Eligible for appointment to the medical staff with clinical privileges at UToledo Health.
- Experience performing kidney, pancreas, and livertransplantation.
- Experience with living donor transplantation.
- Academic appointment or faculty experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to education and mentorship.
- Strong record of scholarly activity, publications, or clinical research.
- Leadership experience within a transplant program.
- Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
