Description:

Oversees and administers special needs programming at the building level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Ensure safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

* Attend departmental, school-wide, and district-wide teacher's meetings and in-service meetings as required.

* Collaborate with and support principals relative to the Exceptional Needs

* Prepare all reports and maintain/oversee such records as required by state law, regulation, or request of the administration for the Exceptional Needs Program.

* Comply with all policies, administrative procedures, and administrative regulations of the board of education and administrative staff.

* Respond to and appropriately handle questions and/or complaints of

* Attend mandatory local/state/federal meetings pertaining to the Exceptional Needs

* Secure, assign and direct Exceptional Needs teachers and educational aides as well as tutors for home-instructed students.

* Operates in the role of district representative in IEP and ETR

* Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective use of telephone and written contact and conferences.

* Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, and

* Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and

* Make contacts with the public with tact and

* Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible human beings.

* Observe established policies regarding proper protection of equipment and property, observance of school laws and safety procedures.

* Observe ethics of the teaching profession, exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.

* Support related services personnel including occupational therapists, speech language therapists and school psychologists.

* Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, g. home and discipline situations, medical background and family history.

* Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
