Position Summary
The Middle School English Language Arts Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-based English Language Arts instruction aligned with Ohio's Learning Standards. The position supports student academic growth, literacy development, and social-emotional learning through effective instructional practices, classroom management, assessment, and collaboration with stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide instruction in English Language Arts in accordance with Ohio's Learning Standards and district curriculum.
Plan, prepare, and implement engaging lessons that address varied learning styles and instructional needs of middle school learners.
Establish and maintain a positive, orderly, and supportive classroom environment conducive to learning.
Implement differentiated instruction, intervention, and enrichment strategies to support diverse learners.
Assess student learning using formative and summative assessments and use data to guide instruction and intervention.
Maintain accurate records related to student attendance, academic progress, and behavior in compliance with district policies.
Utilize instructional technology and district-approved digital resources to enhance teaching and learning.
Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and administrators regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
Collaborate with grade-level teams, intervention specialists, and support staff to promote student success.
Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school-related activities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or designee.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Education, English, or a related field.
Valid Ohio teaching license in Middle Grades (4-9) or Secondary (7-12) English Language Arts or eligibility to obtain appropriate licensure.
Knowledge of middle school English Language Arts curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Education, English, or a related field.
Middle school teaching experience.
Experience with data-driven instruction and differentiated learning strategies.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Work is performed primarily in a classroom setting.
Requires standing, walking, bending, and supervision of students throughout the school day.
Requires the ability to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
Terms of Employment
Salary and work year are established by the Northwestern Local Schools Board of Education in accordance with the negotiated agreement.
