Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree with academic training or experience in a specific teaching field.
Valid certification in a specific teaching field from the Ohio Department of Education or evidence that one may obtain the certification.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Alternatives are not to exceed the above qualifications.

Responsibilities Domain A – Organizes Content Knowledge for Student Learning

Is familiar with relevant aspects of students’ background knowledge and experiences.

Articulate clear learning goals for the lesson that is appropriate for the students.

Demonstrates an understanding of the connections between the content that was learned previously, the current content and the content that remains to be learned in the future.

Creates or selects teaching methods, learning activities and instructional materials or technological resources that are appropriate for the students and that are aligned with the goals of the lesson.

Creates or selects evaluation strategies that are appropriate for the students and that are aligned with the goals of the lesson.

Follow the approved course of study.

Show evidence of daily lesson planning.

Has supplies, materials and equipment ready for instruction.

Domain B – Creates an Environment for Student Learning

Creates a climate that promotes fairness.

Establishes and maintains rapport with students.

Communicates challenging learning expectations to each student.

Establishes and maintains consistent standards of classroom behavior through a variety of approaches.

Makes the physical environment as safe and conducive to learning as possible.

Helps students develop their positive self‑image.

Maintains a high rate of on‑task behavior from students during the lesson.

Emphasizes the importance of student success in proficiency and/or local standardized tests.

Domain C – Teaches for Student Learning

Make learning goals and instructional procedures clear to students.

Make content comprehensible to students.

Encourage students to extend their thinking.

Monitor students’ understanding of content through a variety of means, provide feedback to students to assist learning and adjust learning activities as the situation demands.

Use instructional time effectively.

Integrate technology into instruction as hardware and software are available.

Domain D – Teacher Professionalism

Reflect on the extent to which the learning goals are met.

Demonstrate a sense of efficacy.

Maintain professional relationships with colleagues to share teaching insights and to coordinate learning activities for students.

Communicate with parents or guardians about student learning through interim reports, grade cards, conferences or other means.

Maintain a record of attendance and punctuality which reflects a strong commitment to teaching.

Keep abreast of current professional training (e.g., coursework, in‑service, conferences, professional reading, etc.).

Full‑time. Salary: $40,000 to $80,000 Per Year.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
