Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree with academic training or experience in a specific teaching field.
  • Valid certification in a specific teaching field from the Ohio Department of Education or evidence that one may obtain the certification.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Alternatives are not to exceed the above qualifications.
Responsibilities Domain A – Organizes Content Knowledge for Student Learning
  • Is familiar with relevant aspects of students’ background knowledge and experiences.
  • Articulate clear learning goals for the lesson that is appropriate for the students.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the connections between the content that was learned previously, the current content and the content that remains to be learned in the future.
  • Creates or selects teaching methods, learning activities and instructional materials or technological resources that are appropriate for the students and that are aligned with the goals of the lesson.
  • Creates or selects evaluation strategies that are appropriate for the students and that are aligned with the goals of the lesson.
  • Follow the approved course of study.
  • Show evidence of daily lesson planning.
  • Has supplies, materials and equipment ready for instruction.
  • Domain B – Creates an Environment for Student Learning
  • Creates a climate that promotes fairness.
  • Establishes and maintains rapport with students.
  • Communicates challenging learning expectations to each student.
  • Establishes and maintains consistent standards of classroom behavior through a variety of approaches.
