Job Description

The Elementary Long‑Term Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing instructional continuity during the extended absence of a regular elementary classroom teacher. The individual will create and maintain a positive elementary learning environment, deliver instruction aligned with district curriculum and grade‑level expectations, support the academic and developmental growth of students, and maintain effective classroom operations in accordance with district expectations.

Qualifications
  • Valid Ohio teaching license or substitute teaching license appropriate for elementary grade‑level assignment.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Successful completion of all required background checks and pre‑employment requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and administration.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of elementary instructional strategies, classroom management techniques, and student assessment practices appropriate for young learners.
  • Ability to use technology and district instructional platforms effectively.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver elementary instruction aligned with district curriculum, state standards, and lesson plans.
  • Assume responsibility for all instructional duties of the regular classroom teacher during the assignment period.
  • Prepare lesson plans and instructional materials when necessary.
  • Differentiated instruction to meet the developmental and academic needs of elementary students.
  • Monitor and assess student progress and provide age‑appropriate feedback to students and parents as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance.
  • Utilize technology and instructional resources effectively to support learning.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, nurturing, respectful, and productive elementary classroom environment.
  • Implement district‑approved classroom management procedures and student discipline policies.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, assemblies, field trips, and other assigned settings.
  • Promote positive student behavior, social development, and active student engagement.
  • Address student concerns in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Maintain effective communication with administrators, staff, students, and parents.
  • Collaborate with intervention specialists, paraprofessionals, counselors, related service providers, and other support staff to meet student needs.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development activities, and building initiatives as directed.
  • Provide updates regarding student progress and classroom operations to administration.
  • Follow all district policies, procedures, and Board of Education regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and district matters.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and ethical conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or district administration.
  • Work is performed in a school environment, requiring the ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and supervise students throughout the day.
  • May require occasional lifting of instructional materials or classroom equipment.
  • Exposure to typical classroom noise levels and daily student interaction.

Salary and work year are established by the Northwestern Local Schools Board of Education in accordance with the negotiated agreement. Long‑term sub employment may change due to extenuating circumstances.
