II Group Exercise Instructor to join our team of dedicated staff, volunteers, and members.
- Carry out daily program tasks related directly to the position’s scope.
- Stay updated on current issues regarding group fitness and wellness programs.
- Promote, monitor, evaluate, and ensure that group exercise classes run smoothly with a high level of service to participants.
- Maintain branch and association certifications in CPR/AED and any other required certifications or training set by Metro Atlanta YMCA.
- Attend all required staff meetings and training courses.
- Secure your own music and select music suitable for a family setting.
- Assist as needed in all aspects of the YMCA and its community.
- Participate in and partner with wellness cabinet activities.
- Ensure the follow‑through of incident/accident reporting procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Log class attendance in Group Ex PRO by 11:59p.m. of the night the class is taught.
- Log in to Group Ex PRO at least twice a week to check for facility updates, subbing opportunities, and other important information.
- Secure your own substitute instructor in a timely manner if unable to teach a class; requests must be accepted and approved before you are relieved of responsibility.
- Apply Metro Atlanta YMCA risk and safety guidelines, best practices, and branch emergency procedures consistently.
- Adhere to strength training and nutrition guidelines in alignment with Y‑USA/ACE and ACSM guidelines.
- Refrain from diagnosing injuries, offering medical advice or dispensing commercial health products.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- One or more years of experience teaching group exercise classes.
- Land instructors must hold a current national group exercise certification (ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NETA) and maintain it.
- Water instructors must hold a current national water group exercise certification via AEA and maintain it.
- Both land and water instructors must obtain the YMCA/ACE online Group Exercise Instructor Certification and supplemental courses within 60days of hire.
- If teaching strength or conditioning, must hold the YMCA Strength and Conditioning Instructor Certification.
- Water instructors teaching Aqua Arthritis programs must complete the AEA Arthritis Foundation Program Leader Certification within 60days of hire.
- Must obtain and maintain full access to Y‑Link and the Metro Atlanta YMCA Workday account.
- Must upload continuing education credits via Y‑Link before certification expiration.
- Must possess current CPR/AED certification and renew it every two years.
- Must obtain specialty certifications approved by Metro Atlanta YMCA (e.g., Pilates, Group Cycling, Barre, Zumba, TRX).
- Must pass a group exercise audition based on the format(s) of instruction for which the instructor is being hired.
- Must be knowledgeable about fitness‑related issues, including aerobic/anaerobic exercise, nutrition, injury prevention, and the THE COACH APPROACH®.
- Must complete the THE COACH APPROACH® orientation within 30days of hire.
- High degree of human‑relations skills, ability to facilitate class interaction, and strong teamwork orientation.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, and problem‑solve.
- Effective time‑management skills and strong customer‑service orientation.
- Pass a criminal background and drug‑screening check.
