Playground Monitor

Reports To:
Principal, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, Local Superintendent

Employment Status:
Part Time Monday-Friday, 10:55am-1:25pm

FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt

Qualifications:

Valid driver's license.

High school graduate or equivalent.

At least 18 years of age.

Be experienced in working with and around children whose ages are on a par with whom the monitor will be assigned.

Demonstrates a sincere desire to aid all students.

Good health, high moral character, and good attendance record.

General Description:
The playground monitor is responsible for supervising students during lunch and recess to ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive play environment. This role supports student well-being, encourages positive social interactions, and upholds school behavior expectations while fostering a fun and supportive atmosphere.

Essential Functions:

Supervises students assigned to playground locations (indoor and outdoor) lunchroom, or other areas as assigned.

Promotes safe play and positive behavior; model appropriate interactions.

Proactively intervene to prevent and de-escalate conflicts or unsafe behavior.

Follows the established building discipline procedures to address student behavior issues and communicates incidents promptly and effectively to the Dean of Students.

Maintains awareness of all areas of the assigned playground space and remains actively engaged in supervision.

Proactively setting up equipment, ensuring proper use and care of playground equipment.

Ensuring smooth and safe transitions to and from the playground area at the start and end of recess.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Serves as a positive role model for students by demonstrating responsible citizenship, integrity, and thoughtful behavior.

Promotes the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values among students.

Performs additional duties related to the monitor role as assigned by the principal, assistant superintendent, dean of students and/or local superintendent.

Completion of mandatory online training.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.

Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.

Occasional interaction among unruly children.
