Position

Purpose:

Under the direct supervision of the Dean of Natural Resources & Public Safety, the Adjunct Instructor will facilitate lecture and lab course instruction using current materials, and modify/create new content relevant to course outcomes.

Responsibilities

The instructor will:

  • Teach a range of courses in classroom, lab, or field-based settings, covering analytical chemistry, instruments and analysis using HPLC, GC, GC/MS, LC/MS/MS, cannabis & human history, cannabis supply chain & economics, industry regulations & compliance, indoor/outdoor crop production.
  • Assist with development of course outcomes and curriculum aligned with Academic Affairs and department goals.
  • Convey course outcomes and expectations to students, organize and manage instructional activities, and use learner‑centered methods.
  • Provide evaluation methods, assess student learning, maintain records, submit grades on time, and seek feedback on course delivery.
  • Participate in the college evaluation system for instructional services and regularly revise courses.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve departmental goals while maintaining a safe work area.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Pharmacology, Biology, or closely related field required;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Evidence of professional development and engagement in the field through associations, seminars, workshops, and self‑reading.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technology skills (email, student information system, learning management system).
  • Organizational and record‑keeping skills.
  • Knowledge of subject area, educational theory, learners, learning styles, and learner‑centered education.
  • Interest in education, confidentiality, caring attitude toward students, self‑motivation, and willingness to help students succeed.
  • Knowledge of college resources, organizational structure, programs, objectives, and safe working conditions.
  • Open to suggestions, detail oriented, flexible, collaborative, and ability to prioritize work.
  • Demonstrates behavior in accordance with Hocking College mission and values.
