Qualifications and Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Reports to:
  • Curriculum supervisor and building principal(s) Job Goals:
  • To ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information
  • To empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of media and information
  • To instill a love of learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information
  • To collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists and technology integration specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction, and assess student learning and instructional effectiveness
  • To provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program (SLP) is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and the school district, and is an integral component of the instructional program
  • To align the library and technology program in all K-12 buildings
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Leader
  • Serves on decision-making teams.
  • Aligns program to school, state and national guidelines (i.e. Ohio Technology Standards).
  • Collaborates with teaching staff encouraging the use of technology and the use of digital information resources.
  • Works with technology department and technology integration staff to direct a program that develops technology and information skills necessary for life-long learning.
  • Collects and analyzes data to improve instruction and usage.
  • Remains current in professional practices and developments, information technology and education research applicable to school library programs.
  • Maintains membership in professional associations.
  • Presents at staff, parent and school board meetings and any others as requested by supervisor.
Instructional Partner
  • Is an equal partner in the instructional process.
  • Participates in curriculum development process ensuring that the full range of literacy skills (information, media, visual, digital, and technical) are incorporated.
  • Plans and provides professional development opportunities within the school and district for all staff.
  • Emphasizes the use of credible resources and the ethical use of information as a component of life-long learning in accordance with district Mission Statement:
    The Mission of the Kenston Local School District is for each student to achieve individual academic excellence and to maximize personal growth in a community which demonstrates and develops mutual respect, responsibility, and life-long learning."
Information Specialist
  • Develops and maintains a collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum.
  • Collaborates with technology integration specialists regarding digital resources
  • Provides leadership and expertise in the selection, acquisition, evaluation, and organization of resources and technologies in all formats.
  • Ensures equitable access and responsible and ethical use of information by staff and students.
  • Emphasizes copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property with staff and students.
  • Provides 24/7 access to digital information resources.
  • Consults with staff and students to provide the right resources for the project/lesson at hand.
Teacher
  • Encourages students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
  • Incorporates the learning goals from the Ohio Learning Standards for Technology, with a focus on the Information and Communications strand.
  • Guides students and teachers to check the accuracy, bias and legitimacy of information.
  • Guides students to read for understanding including diverse viewpoints and genres, as well as, for pleasure.
  • Encourages student success by guiding them to build on prior knowledge, construct new knowledge and embrace the many formats of information.
Program Administrator
  • Oversees program planning and maintains their own professional growth.
  • Ensures that goals and objectives of program align with goals and objectives of the district.
