Job Description

The Director of Special Education drives holistic student retention and champions student success by ensuring the highly effective, compliant delivery of IEPs, 504 plans, and English Learner (EL) services across Tri-County Career Center. This role blends rigorous regulatory oversight—such as maintaining impeccable records under IDEA and Ohio law—with innovative student support strategies, including coordinating testing services and maintaining a clear Graduation Requirement Dashboard.

The Director supervises and evaluates Intervention Specialists and counselors, facilitates schedules for external counseling services, leads PBIS exploration, and implements Restorative Practices as meaningful alternatives to suspension. Ultimately, this leader serves as a vital communication bridge between career‑tech labs, partner schools, and families while fostering an inclusive school culture.

Qualifications
  • Minimum five years of successful special education experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of IDEA, Ohio Special Education laws, and graduation pathway options.
  • Relevant degree required along with an Administrative License from the Ohio Department of Education, or willingness to obtain such licensure.
  • Deep familiarity with PBIS frameworks.
  • Strong data organization skills to manage tracking dashboards.
  • Outstanding communication talents capable of building rapport with students, staff, and families.
  • Resourcefulness, strict professional ethics, and a passion for accommodating students with disabilities in a fast‑paced career‑technical environment.
