Loveland Early Childhood Center Preschool Special Education Aide

Mondays-Thursdays 7:30am to 3:00pm Fridays 7:30am to 11:45am 187 day work schedule

Assists intervention specialists with duties and tasks related to special education students and programs by performing the following duties:

Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write routine reports and documents.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, agencies, intervention specialists or members of the school community.

Ability to effectively present information to administration, staff, public groups, and/or Board of Education.

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory based on school objectives.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.

Ability to utilize a wide variety of instructional aids, including technology, to teach reading and math objectives.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Work under the direction of the intervention specialist to prepare special education students academically, socially and behaviorally.

Research and assemble, under the directive of the intervention specialist, materials to be used with a student.

Maintain the classroom when the intervention specialist is temporarily out of the classroom.

Assist in transporting or assisting children to and from classes, playground, transportation means and other required areas.

Assist children with personal feeding, toileting and health-related needs, when necessary.

Provide intervention specialist assistance in preparing materials for instructional and classroom use.

Provide clerical services as needed.

Accompany students to general education classes and help to implement all accommodations and modifications.

Work with special education students in all Individualized Education Plan (IEP) areas.

Maintain respect at all times for confidential information.

Supervise students in the school setting at the direction of the intervention specialist.

Perform routine duties such as lunch, field trips, recess duty and hall duty.

Complete data collection, recordkeeping and other paperwork requested by the intervention specialist.

Attend program planning team meetings, based on district policies, to assist with developing IEPs, and transition plans, when necessary.

Help maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

Assist in meeting goals and objectives of the instructional program as defined in the IEP which had been approved by the IEP team.

Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

Physically restrain students who are potentially dangerous to themselves or others, when appropriately trained.

Actively participate in professional in-service to improve program each year.

Attend meetings and in-services as required.

Frequent repetitive hand motion, e.g., computer keyboard, typing, calculator, writing

Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, and stoop.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
